Energy for Palmdale’s Independent Choice (EPIC) has launched a groundbreaking new program designed to bring the benefits of solar and battery storage to income-qualified residents. In partnership with Tesla Inc. and Participate.Energy, the Power Choice CARE program is now available for customers already enrolled in the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) and Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) programs.

Through Power Choice CARE, qualified customers can have a solar and battery storage system installed at their home with no upfront costs, no credit check and no long-term equipment ownership requirements. Participants can expect to reduce their electricity bills by an estimated 55-65%, creating long-term savings while supporting the City and state’s clean energy goals.

Solar energy not only offers cost reductions, it also builds long-term value. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, homeowners who install rooftop solar panels can save up to $50,000 over 25 years. A separate study from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory found that homes with solar panels tend to sell for 4.1% more on average than comparable homes without solar, reflecting the growing demand for clean energy upgrades.

Power Choice CARE is made possible by the California Public Utilities Commission’s Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP). The SGIP recently launched a $280 million dollar fund to help lower-income households gain access to solar and battery systems. Funds are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited by service area, making timely enrollment is essential.

With only 6,000 qualifying slots available statewide, this is a rare opportunity for Palmdale residents to take advantage of a no-cost solution that helps reduce monthly expenses and contribute to a cleaner and greener environment.
