Energy for Palmdale’s Independent Choice (EPIC) partnered with Homeboy Electronics Recycling, a social enterprise that provides job training and employment opportunities to individuals facing barriers to employment, including formerly incarcerated people, on Saturday, December 6, to host a community electronic recycling event at the Palmdale Transportation Center. The event provided Palmdale residents with a convenient opportunity to responsibly dispose of old electronics while also supporting environmental sustainability and social impact.

During this half-day event, community members brought laptops, monitors, tablets, cables, wires, cell phones, landline phones and other electronic devices to give their devices a second life through proper recycling and refurbishment, keeping harmful electronic waste out of landfills and recovering valuable materials for reuse.

Electronic waste contains valuable materials like copper, gold and rare earth elements, as well as hazardous substances that can harm the environment if improperly disposed of. The event collected six pallets of electronic waste and serviced a total of 29 cars. By providing a free, accessible recycling option, EPIC and Homeboy Electronics Recycling made it easy for residents to make environmentally responsible choices.

The partnership with Homeboy Electronics Recycling reflects EPIC’s commitment to supporting local organizations that support environmental initiatives with community benefit and complements EPIC’s ongoing digital equity initiatives, including the recent distribution of 143 refurbished laptops to families served by South Antelope Valley Emergency Services. While the laptop distribution program helps bridge the digital divide by providing technology to those who need it, recycling events like this ensure that outdated electronics are handled responsibly when they reach the end of their useful life.

The success of these kinds of events highlight the community’s commitment to environmental responsibility and demonstrates the power of local collaborative partnerships. For information about upcoming EPIC events and programs, visit PalmdaleEPICEnergy.com or call (661) 267-5419.
