Energy for Palmdale’s Independent Choice (EPIC) is excited to announce the upcoming launch of FlexWise, an innovative residential demand response program designed to help Palmdale residents save money while strengthening the local energy grid.

Developed through the California Choice Energy Authority (CalChoice), FlexWise transforms the way Palmdale residents think about energy use by rewarding customers for reducing electricity consumption during peak hours from 4 to 9 p.m.

The program offers three flexible participation options:

  • FlexWise Savers: Provides up to 30% lower incentive rates during non-peak periods, plus load reduction credits during event days.
  • FlexWise Rewards: Offers incentives for customers who manually reduce energy during events such as  adjusting thermostats, delaying major appliance use or utilizing battery storage systems.
  • FlexWise Advantage: Provides automatic load reduction through dispatch systems, allowing EPIC to manage certain energy-consuming devices during peak periods with minimal impact on daily routines.

EPIC customers enrolled in time-of-use rates TOU-D-PRIME, TOU-D-4 and TOU-D-5 with interval or Edison SmartConnect meters will be eligible to participate. Participants will receive advanced notice of FlexWise events, typically by 3 p.m. the day before, allowing plenty of time to prepare. Events will be limited to 15 per year and generally occur during extreme heat events and high grid demand, when community cooperation has the biggest impact.

FlexWise also maximizes the benefits of EPIC’s Power Choice customers’ clean energy investment. Battery systems can automatically discharge during peak hours, earning credits while supporting grid stability with locally stored renewable energy.

The innovative approach reflects EPIC’s broader commitment to deliver solutions that serve both individual households and the community. Instead of relying on expensive peak power plants during high-demand periods, FlexWise leverages the collective power of community participation to keep energy reliable, sustainable and affordable
