As summer approaches and the possibility of heatwaves emerge, it is vital to take proactive steps to conserve energy and strengthen grid resilience. Energy for Palmdale’s Independent Choice (EPIC) encourages customers to embrace energy efficiency strategies to help navigate the warmer months ahead.
With temperatures on the rise, demand for electricity surges, increasing the risk of widespread blackouts, especially during peak hours. EPIC is here to help customers cut down on their energy consumption and associated costs without sacrificing comfort or convenience.
During the summer months, customers can implement the following tips to limit energy use:
- Avoid using the oven. Instead, cook on the stove, use a microwave or grill outside to keep your home cool
- Turn off and unplug all electronics and appliances that are not in use
- Set your thermostat to 75°F when at home and to 85°F when you’re away
- Do laundry and cooking during cooler times of the day
- Open windows and blinds during the morning and at night
Customers also have the opportunity to opt-in to receive Flex Alerts, which are voluntary calls to conserve electricity. When there is an anticipated shortage of energy supply, the California Independent Operator (CASIO) issues Flex Alerts to help maintain grid stability. Implementing energy efficiency strategies when these alerts are issued can help protect the community’s power supply while also saving you money on your bill.
