Energy for Palmdale’s Independent Choice (EPIC), in partnership with the City of Palmdale’s Environmental Division, continued its commitment to bridging the digital divide by hosting a laptop distribution event for local seniors on Thursday, August 27, at Legacy Commons. The event provided seniors with access to refurbished laptops, personalized technical support and digital literacy resources designed to help them stay connected and confidently navigate an increasingly digital world.
The initiative offered pre-registered Palmdale seniors who did not previously own a working computer the opportunity to receive a refurbished laptop at no cost. Participants were selected from the waitlist established following EPIC’s May 2026 laptop distribution for active seniors at Legacy Commons. Receiving the technology was only the first step; to ensure participants could immediately make full use of their new devices, the event also offered personalized setup assistance and one-on-one technical support.
Community partners were on-site to connect seniors with digital literacy tools and resources tailored specifically to their needs. These resources focused on helping participants build confidence using technology, access online services and stay connected with family members and support networks.
EPIC sponsored this event to provide refurbished laptops for each recipient, ensuring every senior left with both a device and the tools to support its use. This investment reflects EPIC’s firm belief that access to modern technology is essential for seniors managing their health, utility bills, career growth and personal connections.
This event marks the latest milestone in EPIC’s ongoing commitment to advancing digital equity and technology access throughout Palmdale. The effort builds upon a strong foundation of community outreach, including a recent laptop distribution for active seniors at Legacy Commons, the delivery of 143 refurbished laptops to local families served by South Antelope Valley Emergency Services and environmental sustainability drives held in partnership with Homeboy Electronics Recycling.
